Winner Judges' Award 2013 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting

"The writing has a blasted beauty... that – like its teenage protagonists – is a small, fragile thing with a fiercely beating heart." THE GUARDIAN

On the brink of leaving the place they’ve known forever, Ava and Tash have to work out what they’ll do next when the rest of the world comes rushing in. A story of two best friends trying to understand what freedom means for them, as sweet sixteen beckons and casts them out of their care home into a quiet storm of separation.

Winner of a Judges' Award in the 2013 Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting, Bird was first performed in a co-production by Sherman Cymru and the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, at the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, on 17 May 2016, before transferring to the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, on 8 June 2016.
