Marcus Rivera - LARRY
Marcus is a versatile singer and actor having performed in Classical Music, Musical Theatre, Cabaret, Film and TV. He studied at the prestigious Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Australian Institute of Music. Marcus trained in both tenor and counter-tenor fach, and studied under highly-respected Verdinian soprano Arax Mansourian, who is based in Sydney but originally from Armenia.
Marcus wrote his one-man cabaret show
performing in Sydney and as a headliner in the Melbourne Cabaret Festival (2006). Marcus produced and performed in the vocal group ENCORE and recorded their debut CD
ENCORE “LIVE!”- Vincero!
n 2007, he understudied and performed the role of ‘The Engineer’ in the Cameron Mackintosh production of
in Australia (2007-08).
He has since worked with various companies including Opera Australia (
The King and I
), Opera Queensland (
), The Production Company (
The King and I, Anything Goes
), Melbourne City Opera and ABC Network (
Rewind – Mei Quong Tart
). He also performed in the weekly J
azz and Broadway
cabaret show at TENO2 Jazz Club (2010 Manila) and the sell-out performance of the
Marcus is the recipient of the McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod’s 2012 “Counter Tenor Award”. In 2017 Marcus performed in the
IBLA Grand Prize held in Ragusa, Italy and presented the Philippine "Kundiman" repertoire. He was awarded "Most distinguished musician” for his performance. He also reprised the role of The Engineer in Packemin Production of
with rave reviews. He is a sought-after host in the Filipino-Australian community with his co-host Michelle Baltazar. Marcus is currently working on the counter-tenor repertoire, as well as working and recording an album of Filipino Art Songs
Early this year, Marcus participated in the Melbourne Theatre Company and CAAP‘s Asian-Australian director’s workshop conducted by Sarah
and Dean Bryant.
He is also the co-producer and co-host of a new Filipino-Australian comedy and variety TV show T
he Marcus and Michelle Show
with Michelle Baltazar.
